Logging in is no longer necessary. Your course is now emailed to you on the date you purchased it. You can be creative and use anything you can find. I use cotton piping cord in size 3/8" (9.5mm), you can find it on my website in a 25yd bundle. If you live outside the USA, try searching online for what is available near you.
Totally normal. It's what gives your basket that soft and delicate look and feel. Try to let it relax and do it's thing. You'll find that it doesn't change the look of the basket when it's complete, and in the process, a relaxed string helps to cover up the piping cord better!
